Coffee Dates – Writing

Time to grab the coffee again!  Let’s have a fun little chat!

Today’s prompt:

If you had the opportunity to write as a career, what would you write?

In the past year, I have thought a lot about the possibility of making writing a career and what that might entail.  I have written for many years in the form of other blogs, journals, and general school assignments.  In 3rd grade, when I first started learning how to type, I remember getting my first email account so that I could write letters to my family.  I also got my first blog around that same time.  All I wanted to do was write and let my voice be heard, even from a young age.

You know how people always ask kids what they want to be when they grow up?  I remember there being a time when my answer to this would be “I want to be a librarian.”  or “I want to write children’s books.”  There was even this kit that my parents bought me when I was young that was a “create-your-own” book kind of a thing and then once you finished the book, you sent it back into the company and they would publish it for you.  I remember working on it for months, and never ended up sending it in to get published, but I loved doing that.

Today, I love to write just for the sake of writing.  Journaling helps me get out my frustrations, remember happy moments, and share my deepest darkest secrets with only the paper in front of me.  Sitting down and writing for the blog makes me super happy as well.  Although handwriting is a spectacular form of writing, there is something about sitting in front of my laptop and just letting my fingers fly that is so satisfactory.  Even thinking about writing makes me happy.

Pursuing this as a career, I’m not entirely sure what that entails.  It is a lot easier for me to write nonfiction material, considering that is all I have done throughout my life.  I do have ideas for fictional novels though, and to challenge myself to bring those worlds in my head to life is something I’m willing to put the work into.  I have a lot of work to do before that can become a reality though.

This ended up being much shorter than my typical blog post, but, I would love to hear your opinions on either writing, or perhaps just your dream career.  Feel free to leave a comment or like the post and don’t forget to subscribe if you want to be notified whenever I post!

Until next time my friends,

  1. I think writing is a great outlet as well as a good career. Like a few other careers it can be combined with other pursuits (jobs) at the same time. Pursue your dream!
